Peace Mural by Jermyn Voon.
Peace Mural
Two fingers are a universal symbol of peace today. The location of this mural is East Village, which is one of Calgary’s oldest and original neighborhood. The reputation of East Village has under gone a huge transition the last few years; from a run-down area to a hip and striving neighborhood. Michelle Hoogveld, a Canadian contemporary artist, painter and muralist painted an image of her hand giving a peace sign. The location of this mural is extremely fitting as it is between the East Village area and the Calgary Stampede Park. This represents a simple way that one can “Do Local Good” – is by reconciling our history with the future problems of the world. The importance of never forgetting our past but embracing our future.
